Chilled Water
PIR300 25/50

Chilled water systems are used everywhere, from hospitals, office buildings, airports, hotels, schools, to commercial office buildings.

Chilled Water

The purpose of a chilled water system is to remove ambient heat from the existing air and to return cooler air in its place, thus lowering the overall temperature of the affected room. Since every building and application is unique, there is a wide variation with respect to design, size and complexity of each individual system. Smaller units may consist of a small chilling unit and a minimal amount of piping, while large hotels and commercial building may use chillers that weigh several thousands of pounds and have miles of piping associated with them.

Regardless of the size of the chilled water system, they all require the correct insulation. Using the proper insulation for your particular system is key. It has to have a low enough thermal conductivity so it is able to minimize condensation on the piping system and has to have an adequate fire safety rating.

HiTHERM’s PIR300 25/50 is the perfect solution to chilled water systems insulation needs. With an industry best thermal conductivity of 0.168 (R-Value of 6.1 per inch), using PIR300 25/50 gives you the most efficient system possible. By having lower thermal conductivity than our competition, less insulation thickness is required to keep the same thermal efficiency. PIR300 25/50 will help lower operational costs as well as extend the life of the system.

PIR300 25/50 has a vapor permeability of less the 4 Perm-in and a water absorption of only 0.05 psf for providing the needed protection against moisture intrusion which can lead to condensation on the piping. Condensation protection is critical in preventing loss of efficiency, but also protects against corrosion under the insulation itself. A single point of insulation system failure can spread quickly and effect the entire chilled water system.

Finally, with an E84 25/50 Class A rating, HiTherm PIR300 25/50 can be specified in buildings such as hospitals, airports, hotels and schools where heavy consideration to fire safety and smoke promulgation is a requirement. This rating allows this versatile and efficient insulation to be used throughout the entire system regardless of where your piping plenums are located.
